NIGHT OF THE PROFS (2026)

SYNOPSIS

'Stolpersteine – Films Against Oblivion' is a short film series produced by the MA programme Multimedia and Authorship at the Department of Media and Communication Studies, Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg with Leef Hansen as artistic director. Each year, the series returns to the Night of the Profs, where its films are shown again.

'Unseen!' is the motto of the current series, and it names what these films are after: lives that German remembrance culture has kept at its margins. One film speaks of the women forced into prostitution at Buchenwald concentration camp; another gives a voice to Kurt Koch of Halle, silenced in his time as a gay man. A third travels with Michal Saar Bleiweiß from Israel to Halle, where a Stolperstein is laid for her father, Manfred Katz. A fourth asks, alongside Tanya Yael Raab, how antisemitic ideas about the body still govern what we count as beauty and why we work to perfect ourselves. And a fifth turns to Zeitz, where Stolpersteine have been attacked — and where a town has refused to look away.
